Well, today the pups turn 8 wks. old. In some ways it feels just like yesterday that they were born and in other ways it feels like forever that they have been here! LOL. It has been a busy few weeks!! The gang is pretty active these days. The pups had their vet visit on Friday last week. The vet was surprised at how ‘big’ there were! He felt the smallest male was the ‘normal’ size and the rest were large. Raw fed pups tend to have more muscle than kibble fed dogs and thus sometimes people are surprised at their look and feel. The largest pup was 15 lbs and the smallest pup is 12 lbs. The pups had a glowing visit and health check! ALL are very healthy, have strong hearts, good bites, and no issues. They did very well while there. They were curious, interacted with the staff and did very well with health check and implanting of their microchips.
After the vet visit we went back home to eat, play and then a bit of a rest before the temperament test. A friend of mine did the test and it also went well. The pups were still a bit tired but they responded well. No big surprises in the testing. We did it in the round pen at the back of the property (I tried to clean out all the sheep poop beforehand). There were a TON of smells though that kept the pups busy in this environment.
2 pups went to their new homes this past weekend. Black/red stock coat is living with his new family in Kamloops and black/red girl is with her new owners on Vancouver Island. The remaining pups leave this weekend.
They are very active these days!! Play time is longer and they play hard. They get to wander and investigate most of the yard and enjoy this immensely. They come to the barn with me and see the sheep and kittens. Tikka is still enjoying many play times with her pups!!! She is now sleeping in my room at night but loves to get up in the morning to romp, interact and engage the pups in play! She is so much fun to watch!!! The pups love to play with her too! I have also let Dangi out with the pups in the yard. They really like him and he is terrific with them! He loves to have them chase him and he gets them to do this while he prances around the yard. He is very gentle with them and doesn’t mind if they crawl all over him. “Faith” (girl sable pup) seems to really like Dangi and I am pretty sure he knows she is a girl. He will go and smell all the pups initially and then starts to play with them.
The pups continually have something in their mouths and love it when the other pups chase them trying to get it out! We also had some SNOW the other night, so I let the pups out to play in it. They LOVED it. Tikka loves trying to catch the snow in her mouth as it drops and the pups had fun running and chasing each other in it! Too bad it did not stick around for long. They are calling for more snow but I am not sure we will actually get it. I love it when it snows like this as it is so much ‘lighter’ outside and easy to see the pups, what they are doing etc. It gets dark early these days. This will likely be my last journal for the pups. From here on in, I will give some updates in their new homes as their new owners update me! This is an exciting time for new owners, the puppies and even myself! I love that the pups bring a lot of joy, companionship and awesome memories to their new owners!
